This program is designed to help integrate individuals with disabilities into competitive employment. The Employment Specialist will initially work very closely with the job seeker to identify appropriate employment goals. The Employment Specialist will then, working with the consumer, act as a liaison with the employer.
Once employment has been secured the Employment Specialist assists the consumer with building natural supports that are necessary to ensure successful employment.
Employment Specialist are also charged with educating employers and their staff about working with people who have disabilities; answering questions regarding the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ; and trying to break down some of the stigma, myths and stereotypes associated with people with disabilities.
